Have you ever had to put your money where your mouth is?
Here’s where my mouth is… In case you haven’t noticed, I blog a lot lately about the worthlessness of money. In fact, I have even ventured to say that it’s a BLESSING if you DON’T have money, because it forces you to recognize the truth… that we are not self-sufficient. That we rely on God for our every need.
Recently, Brad & I wondered if we were about to face near financial disaster. (Well, at least in our very wealthy “middle class suburban American” world.) And I have to admit something… I was scared.
I thought, “Oh dear Lord. You’re about to [gulp] bless us, aren’t you? You’re about to teach us how to rely on You. Actually, You’re going to show us the truth that we ALREADY rely on You… only we don’t recognize it.”
It looks like our financial ruin isn’t coming for us today. And I’m reminded that Jesus promised He would never put more on us than we were able to handle. Which makes me think that I am still a little too faithless for God to entrust us with the trials of financial hardship. Maybe we just aren’t spiritually mature enough to handle it. Or maybe it just wasn’t in God’s cards for us at the moment.
In the meantime, I wonder… If I truly believe that STUFF is useless, why do we still have it? Why haven’t we given it to the poor? Why to I TALK something that I do not WALK? And how do we get to that point where we know we should be, only do not have the faith to jump into? Oh dear God, please break us & change us!
