Before new life breaks forth, there is darkness…
Seeds in the black soil…
A tiny fetus in the womb…
Jesus’ body sealed in a tomb…
Darkness whispers the life-giving potential of growth, rebirth, resurrection. In the depths of the black, seeds of life are mysteriously and imperceptibly changing. Getting ready to become something greater than they’ve ever been. Creation itself began with nothing but darkness… and the presence of God.
“… and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering…” Genesis 1:2-3
When terrible circumstances leave us in darkness, I try hard to remember that darkness is the starting point for all things new. New life is coming. Rebirth, resurrection, and fullness of joy are on their way. But for now, the lights are dim.
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.” 1 Corinthians 13:12
“I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things.” Isaiah 45:7
“I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground.” Isaiah 42:16
“Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.” Isaiah 60:20
The Spirit of God hovers in your darkness.
These current troubles are compost for the joys He plans to sprout.
Dawn is breaking…
Praying for even the darkness to bring you hope this weekend.
